Writing about the high profile donor intent lawsuit Robertson v. Princeton, Fransen discusses why nonprofits that accept restricted gifts have an obligation to use the money as intended. He says: “If a donor offers money to a college for a purpose that is incompatible with the institution’s mission or priorities, the college can decline. The minute it accepts the money … it has an obligation to make good on its promises.”
